Lorax Play

You will need to watch this space over the next few weeks. Room six are on a mission! They have read the story of "The Lorax", by Dr Suess and are recreating it in a play with room one. Every child in both classes has a part to play and they have been practicing their lines. All the talking parts require the children to practice what they have been learning throughout this term...
-voice projection
-emphasis at certain times
-confidence
-fluency and remembering your lines
-expression in voice
-engagement with the audience and others in the play

Not only does everyone have a talking part, many children in room six have a specific role in making this play possible. The children have been learning about all of the different roles it takes to producer and present a play, from director through to stage hands and costume designers. We even have a videographer who is filming the process to get to the end result- performance day!

Watch is space for developments as the term goes by.

Focused, motivated learners...

"Put your heart, mind, and soul into even your smallest acts. This is the secret of success."
-Swami Sivananda
Today we spent sometime talking about what it means to be a motivated, successful learner. We all want to be successful in whatever it is we choose to aim for and we know it begins within ourselves! We need to make sure we allow ourselves and others the opportunity to learn and gain success. At times, what this looks like for some of us is different to others, and that is OK (because everybody learns in different ways)! For a small part of our day this is what learning and success looked like to us, as we each worked on one of our reading tasks...

It was also Daffodil Day in which we were raising money for the Cancer Society and it was great to see all of the spring colours coming out in our mufti outfits!

Congratulations to Sarah O'Connor who was our STAR STUDENT for this fortnight. She has been putting in a big effort with all her work. She is enthusiastic about her learning and always willing to help out when asked. Keep it up Sarah!

Information reports

We have been learning how to structure an information report. The purpose of a report is to describe and classify information. Reports have a logical sequence of facts that are stated without any personal involvement from the writer. We do not use personal pronouns such as I, we, me etc

Check out our individual blogs for some of our examples...

Sports interviews

We have been following the Cricket World Cup this year and it is fantastic to see New Zealand go through into the final. We decided there were a lot of sporting heroes in New Zealand who represent our country well, the Black Caps are a fine example. We then had to choose and research a famous sporting hero and write a set of interview questions we would like to ask this sporting hero. Next we had to find out the answers before filming our interviews. For most of us this is our first experience/play on I-Movie. Below is a link to one of our interview examples. Check out our individual blogs for more...

ANZAC artwork

We are underway with our Anzac topic. We had an opportunity to create a piece of artwork in remembrance for those who lost their lives and get it all the way to Gallipoli. Here we are working on our artwork... Watch out for the finished product!
